Mutisya Tops 1500 Meter Record To Lead HU Women's Track and Field In Busy Weekend

HAMPTON, Va. (April 5, 2026) … The Hampton University women's track and field team participated in three meets this weekend running at the Texas Relays, Florida Relays and Norfolk State Invitational.

 Highlighting the weekend was a school record 1500 meter run by Peninah Mutisya at the Florida Relays in 4:25.26 as she beat the previous mark set by Ce'Aira Brown in 2016 of 4:28.23.



Texas Relays

Danielle James had a pair of top 10 finishes coming in second in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 12.42m (40-9) and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.78m (18-11.75).

Nyla Felton ran a season best 11.43 to take fifth in the 100 meters, while Brianna Charles took 10th in 11.49.

In the 4x200 relay, Charles, Felton, Morgan Pruitt and DeAuna Louis ran a 1:37.10 to finish fourth.

Florida Relays

Mutisya set her school record in an invitational 1500 meter race, while Nia Warren ran 4:39.37 to take 10th in another 1500 race.

Rochele Solmon continued a strong outdoor season with a pair of top five finishes in the discus and shot put. She was third in the discus with a toss of 50.52m (165-9) and fifth in the shot put in 14.60m (47-11).

Mia Bryson was also ninth in the shot put in 13.55m (44-5.5).

NSU Invitational

Caylie Jefferson and Madison Hardrick went 2-3 in the 100 meters with Jefferson coming in 11.75 and Hardrick in 11.78.

Hardrick, Zoe Ledet and Kemani Bailey went 1-3-5 in the 200 meters with Hardrick winning in 2441, Ledet took third in 24.52 and Bailey was fifth in 24.72.

Olayinka Yetunde won the 400 meters in 56.30, while Alannah Runge was third in the 800 (2:11.61).

Layla Hasan and Ayanna Brown went 4-5 in the 400 hurdles with Hasan coming in 1:03.84 and Brown in 1:04.79.

The 4x100 relay grouping of Ledet, Sophia Cormier, Hardrick and Jefferson took second in 46.55.

Arden Gray was third in the triple jump with a leap of 11.49m (37-8.5).
