Builder Baseball Finishes Season with Sweep of VA Peninsula CC

HAMPTON - The regular season has come to a close with The Apprentice School baseball team improving to a 35-5 record after a doubleheader sweep of VPCC Friday afternoon.





GAME 1 - AS 8, VPCC 3

The Gators struck first in the top of the opening frame with a RBI single, but the Builders answered right back, scoring eight straight runs. A three-spot in the first took the lead, starting with a Lucca Pascarella RBI single before Jaeden Anderson scored to take a 2-1 lead moments later. Jackson Thomas had a RBI single as well in the frame.

After scoring one in the second, Anderson plated two more on a single up the middle in the third to take a 6-1 lead. He would add another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly before Pascarella doubled to right to wrap up the Apprentice scoring. VPCC scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get to the final.

Charley Higginbotham (7-2) got the win, going four innings and allowing just one run off three hits.


GAME 2 - AS 13, VPCC 5

The Builders scored first in the second half of the twinbill, scoring off a Landon Turner RBI single that plated two early. The Gators went on to score three straight runs, including two in the top of the second to tie the game before taking the lead in the third.

Apprentice answered in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3 on an Isaac McCallister sacrifice fly, but VPCC struck back in the fifth to plate two and take a 5-3 lead.

The Builder bats finally went off in the sixth as the home team plated 10 runs off four hits and four Gator errors. AS took the lead on a Nate Yeary RBI single that plated two before the Builders poured seven more on to put the game away.

Nick Redman (9-1) got the win in relief, tossing a shutout sixth inning.

Sporting the best record in the USCAA, the Builders now wait on the Small College World Series Bid Show to take place Monday at noon to find out their seeding for the national tournament to take place May 10-16.
